Who is behind Text & Language?

I am an experienced linguist, qualified and professional translator and language tutor. I studied Applied Linguistics, Translation and Interpreting at Universität des Saarlandes university in Saarbrücken, Germany, focusing on English, Spanish and German as my main languages and Information Technology and Engineering as my specialised subjects. I finalised my studies with a terminology research thesis on The Language of Computer Networks in English and German and graduated with the degree Diplom-Übersetzerin (whose British equivalent would be an MA).

- After graduating and before setting up Text & Language, I worked for renowned multinational companies in Dublin and London, including Siemens and Microsoft.
- Apart from my MA in translation, I am also a qualified homeopath and have a basic teaching qualification.
- I specialise in technical, medical (conventional and alternative) and textbook translation and am particularly interested in contributing to publications focusing on ecology and sustainability. I take on copy editing and proofreading projects for both German and English language copy.
- While my native tongue is German, I speak and write English fluently, having lived and worked in Ireland and England for the past 17 years. I also have a great command of Spanish, having studied and travelled extensively in Spain. In addition, I would be able to "get by" in French and Italian.
- For my copy editing work, I collaborate with a colleague who studied at Cambridge University and earned an MA degree. His languages are English (native), French and German. He shares large-scale copy editing projects with me. Together, we are the copy editors of various car magazines, including Japanese Performance and Auto Italia.
- For other language combinations, I cooperate with qualified and specialised translators from the UK and Germany, Italy and France.
